5 Things to Know This Week

 

1.  THANKSGIVING BREAK IS NOVEMBER 26 – NOVEMBER 30.  Upon return to school on December 1, the Hybrid schedule includes an in-person learning day on Wednesday as follows:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday, A-L Hybrid Learners REPORT TO SCHOOL
  • Thursday and Friday, M-Z Hybrid Learners REPORT TO SCHOOL

2.  HOLIDAY GIFT CARD PROGRAM HONORS PARKLAND STAFF – Wish your favorite Parkland staff member a Happy Holidays from the convenience of your home. Order a $10 gift card and The Parkland Education Foundation will deliver the cards to their mailboxes with a personal note from you.  Safe, easy, and contactless!

4.   BACKPACK FULL OF CASH is a feature-length documentary that explores the growing privatization of public schools and the resulting impact on America’s public schools. We hope that this documentary can help our community better understand cyber charter schools and vouchers, and put a human face on the consequences of these policies. The Parkland Education Foundation has made the documentary available to the first 200 people who register to view it between 8 AM on November 28 and 11 PM on November 30.  For the registration code and more info, click here

5. DECISION TO KEEP SCHOOLS OPEN - We emailed all staff and families the District’s decision to keep schools open.  In case you missed it, click here to read the message.

REMINDERS:

Middle School Marking Period Ends on December 2.  Please take time out this weekend to look in Home Access Center (HAC) for any missing assignments or zeros and encourage your student to address any questions or concerns with their teachers. If you need help accessing your account, please contact hac@parklandsd.org.

1.  THANKSGIVING WEEK SCHEDULE IS DIFFERENT:

  • Monday, A-L Hybrid Learners REPORT TO SCHOOL (Elementary dismisses at 1:45 PM)
  • Tuesday, M-Z Hybrid Learners REPORT TO SCHOOL (Middle Schools dismiss at 1 PM and follows an early dismissal learning schedule, Elementary dismisses at 1:45 PM)
  • Wednesday, eLearning day for all students - All schools will follow an early dismissal schedule which is different from a typical eLearning day schedule.  Be sure to follow instructions from your teachers!

2. CHANGE TO SNOW DAYS – All inclement weather days will be eLearning days for all students this year.  See more information here.

3. PHS MIDTERMS HAVE BEEN CANCELED - Therefore, January 20 and 21 will be full instructional days (not early dismissal days as was printed on the district calendar).  View the updated the calendar

11/13/20

1. Report cards will be available for review for all elementary students in Home Access Center (HAC) on Nov 18 at 3 PM and will be in HAC for all high school students on Nov 19 at 12 noon.  If you need help accessing your HAC account, please email HAC@parklandsd.org.

2. Calendar:  PHS Reopens for in-person instruction on Monday. Elementary Schools will dismiss at 1:45 PM starting next Thursday, November 19, for Parent Teacher Conferences and will continue early dismissals each of the following days for conferences through Wednesday, November 25th.

3. St. Luke’s shared some helpful tips with us this week on what to do when quarantining.  We’ve posted them on our coronavirus page here.

4. A "Backpack Full of Cash" movie screening has been made possible by the Parkland Education Foundation for our community.  The movie can be watched Nov 28 - Nov 30 for free, so mark your calendar.  Curious?  Find out more here.

5. THANKSGIVING TRAVEL ADVISORY: If your family is planning to travel to an area where there are high amounts of COVID-19 cases, you should plan to stay at home for 14 days upon return to Pennsylvania.  A list of states is regularly updated on the PA Department of Health website at: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx

1. Veterans Day - We love this day and many of our schools are planning programs to thank veterans in their own special way this year.  Take the time to thank a veteran on Wednesday, November 11.
