5 Things to Know This Week

Happy Last Day of School!

This past school year was truly a year to remember. Filled with unprecedented challenge and change, it brought us together like never before.

To our professional and support staff, students, parents and community partners, individually and collectively, you made this year a remarkable one. THANK YOU!

1. THIS WEEK's MEALS TO GO FORM is open at www.parklandsd.org/mealstogo.  Order by Sunday at 9 AM for next Friday pick up of meals (last one for this school year).

2. CHROMEBOOKS: All Parkland students will retain their assigned Chromebooks over the Summer.  Please keep your chromebook and charger safe and away from extreme temperatures. To store your chromebook for the summer, check the battery life is at 80% before shutting down.  Even when a chromebook is off, its battery continues to lose charge.  Do not let the battery fully discharge over the summer.  This may require you to turn on your chromebook and charge it to 80% occasionally.  At least one week before school resumes, 1) plug in your chromebook to a power source to fully charge the battery. 2) Connect your chromebook to WiFi.  3) Finally, restart your chromebook to perform Chrome OS updates while plugged in.

3. CURRENT 8th GRADE STUDENTS will be contacted in August with the opportunity to exchange their existing chromebook for a new Chromebook.  This will be their new learning device for Grades 9-12.

4. ENCOURAGE READING - If there is one thing you can encourage your students to do this summer, encourage them to read!  The Parkland Community Library is now open, newly renovated and expanded.  Check them out for reading lists and read out loud to your kids (even the oldest ones)!  Also, some Parkland Elementary School Libraries will be open and information about our Summer Book Quest Reading Challenge is inside the newsletter referenced above (Psst... it includes great prizes).

5. THE 1st DAY OF SCHOOL of the next school year is August 30, 2021.

The data collected will assist Parkland in obtaining local, state and federal funding to provide broadband resources to our students and families.

4. CHROMEBOOKS - All Chromebooks for students in grades K-11 can be kept at home this summer so that students may keep learning and using them with the expectation that they bring them back to school this fall.  If your family moves or your student needs to disenroll, you will be required to return the Chromebook.

This is an exciting step in the pandemic response, but it will take a team effort to get there – most importantly by stepping up to get vaccinated.
