Attendance

Every Day and Every Minute Counts — Let’s Work Together for Your Child’s Success

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you and your family are enjoying a wonderful summer. As we look ahead to a new school year filled with promise and potential, we’re excited about the opportunities that await your child, and we’re grateful to be your partner in their journey.

Student Success Begins with Consistent and Engaged Attendance

When students are in school every day, they are more likely to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Research is clear: strong attendance is a key indicator of student achievement, from Kindergarten all the way through high school.

That’s why we’re reaching out today to ask for your partnership in ensuring your child is present and ready to learn each day.

Why Attendance Matters

  • Regular attendance improves reading, math skills, and overall academic performance.
  • Missing just 2 days a month (10% of the year) can significantly affect learning.
  • Good attendance habits in early grades set the foundation for long-term success.
  • Students not reading on grade level by Grade 3 are 13× more likely to drop out later.

Every day matters. Every minute makes a difference
When a student misses just one day of school, they miss valuable learning time with a caring, dedicated teacher, time that supports their growth, confidence, and success.

As you make plans for family travel or appointments, we kindly ask that you refer to our district calendar and prioritize school attendance whenever possible. Every absence, whether due to illness, vacation, or appointments, adds up and can impact your child’s learning.

Let’s Partner for Success

We understand that life can bring unexpected challenges. If your family is facing any barriers that may impact attendance, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal. Please visit our Parkland Student Family & Support web page and contact us if we can help you in any way.

Thank you for all that you do to support your child’s success. With your commitment and our shared dedication, we can make this school year a powerful one for every student.

With appreciation,

Dr. Mark J. Madson, Superintendent
Dr. Michelle Minotti, Assistant Superintendent
