K-2 Guidance
Note: February 13, 2026 is now an in person instruction day of learning for students as it is the makeup day for December 2, 2025.
This communication focuses specifically on our K-2 students, who will not be taking their Chromebooks home this school year.
How a Flexible Instructional Day (FID) Works for K-2 Students
Given that your student will not have a school device at home, their learning activities for a FID will be handled through a system of pre-planned, non-digital resources and activities.
1. Teacher Communication and Materials:
- Packet/Activity Information: Your child's classroom teacher will be sending home specific, non-digital learning materials and instructions prior to any potential FID. This may take the form of a physical packet, a sheet of structured activities, or instructions to complete tasks using materials already provided or available at home.
- Specific Teacher Information: Parent Teacher Conferences in November provide an ideal time for your child’s teacher to provide you additional information, as needed.
- Activities & Assignments: The academic activities will cover core subject areas (reading, writing, math & content, with some added ideas for encore subjects) and will be designed to be completed independently or with minimal parental supervision, where appropriate for the grade level.
2. Teacher Availability and Support:
- Teacher Availability & Support: While K-2 students will not have synchronous, online instruction, our K-2 teachers will be available on the FID during regular instructional hours to answer questions and provide support via email or Schoology. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions about the assigned work.
Your Role as a K-2 Family
Your support is key to a successful FID. We ask that you:
- Locate the Materials: Upon the announcement of a FID, please find the materials that your child’s teacher sent home.
- Guide the Learning: Help your student understand and complete the assigned activities for the day.
- Return the Work: Ensure your child brings the completed work (packets, logs, assignments, etc.) back to school on the first school day following the FID. This completed work serves as their attendance for the day.
We appreciate your flexibility and partnership as we ensure that learning continues seamlessly, even when school buildings must close. If you have any specific questions about your child's FID assignments, please contact their classroom teacher directly. For general FID questions, please contact your school's main office.
Sincerely,
Kelly Rosario, Director of Teaching and Learning
