Inclement Weather Guidance for Students
Inclement Weather Guidance for Students 2025-2026
Note: February 13, 2026 is now an in person instruction day of learning for students as it is the makeup day for December 2, 2025.
Parkland School District no longer includes snow days in its calendar. The district has the option to utilize Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs) for a maximum of five days. Each weather event will be assessed, and decisions will be communicated by the superintendent. In cases of power outages or other conditions preventing the use of a FID, students and staff will be required to make up the missed day, as outlined in the district calendar.
What do Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs) mean for students?
Teachers will have plans for students on a FID day. They can opt to meet synchronously with students or have asynchronous instruction or assignments provided for their students. Plans will be communicated to students and families.
- A FID 2 hour delay schedule will be followed.
- If you meet synchronously with your class, it will occur during the FID 2 hour delay scheduled period.
- Support staff will be available to assist students and teachers as needed.
Staff will be available to answer emails and support students throughout the school day hours on a FID.
Kindergarten - 2nd grade students will not have their device at home on a FID; please refer to this guidance on how a FID will work for our youngest students.
Attendance will be taken based on submission of assignments and/ or participation in a synchronous virtual session.
- Assignments must be submitted the same day as the FID. If technology prohibits students from submitting work on the FID, they must submit their work immediately upon return to school the following school day. If work is not submitted by then, the student will be marked absent for the FID.
- Parents/students should contact their teachers if there are extenuating circumstances that prohibit students from completing an assignment. Students will be marked absent if the work is not submitted, however students will have three days to complete the assignment for credit and/or a grade.
- If a student had a pre-arranged absence, the student is expected to make up their learning activities and assignments within three days of returning to school just as if it were any other absence from school.
A FID day counts as an instructional day and will be included in the cycle. (Plan to follow the current cycle schedule. A FID day will count as the next cycle day).
Weather related early dismissals and late starts will not be impacted. School will start/end at the direction of the early dismissal or late start.
Please contact your building principal if you have any questions.
