SCHOOLS CLOSED Friday and Monday

HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT YOUR SCHOOL’s 1^st WEEK OF SCHOOL WEB PORTAL?  If not, please take some time to do so.  We’ve compiled all the documents you need to prepare your family for the school year ahead on one webpage to make it super convenient to find answers to your most pressing questions (think FOOD SERVICE, SCHOOLOGY, HOME ACCESS CENTER, etc.).

CALENDARS – You should have received a wall calendar from your youngest student this week.  Please check their backpacks!  Of course, calendar items are subject to change, so stay up to date by bookmarking the Parkland web calendar for all the latest information.

PARKLAND STUDENTS GET IN FREE - We are pleased to announce that a generous gift from the Parkland Education Foundation will once again allow all Parkland students with ID (and Parkland children under age 5) to be admitted to all turf and gym games for free this year (this excludes football).  The Foundation is doing this to help students cheer on their fellow Trojans without cost as well as give families a break so that when parents bring siblings to games, the children get in free. Take a picture of your student ID and save it to your phone so you always have it with you.  Until ID's are handed out, this flyer will allow students to gain admittance, or you can use a previous year's ID.

CALENDAR REMINDERS:
Wednesday, September 6th, is the instrument pickup date for all students who are renting instruments.  Pickups will occur at Springhouse Middle School (1200 Springhouse Rd.), 6-7:30 PM, for all students in the Parkland School District.  

Thursday, September 7 - PHS OPEN HOUSE

Friday, September 8 - SCHOOL PICTURE DAYS are starting with the first one at Fogelsville Elementary on September 8!  Mark your calendar for your school's picture day so that you lay out that special outfit the day before.  All are listed on the Parkland web calendar.

4th ANNUAL FOUNDATION GOLF OUTING - Registration for the Parkland School District Education Foundation Golf Outing occurring on October 6th is now open! Gather a group of your favorite golfers and join us for a day of golf, food, and fun - all while supporting the non-profit that made 105 Grants Totaling $207,000 for 2023-2024 School Year Projects for the benefit of our students and staff. Your registration includes a round of golf at Brookside Country Club, a cart, breakfast and lunch, a gift bag and so much more! FOOTBALL TAILGATE EVENT - The Parkland Education Foundation is holding a pre-game tailgate event in the end zone of the PHS football field before the September 29th game vs. Whitehall.  All are welcome to purchase tickets which will include admission to the game, access to the end zone tailgate area to view the game, food from K'town Pub, non-alcoholic beverages, games and more!  Tickets are available until we sell out or Monday, September 25th at www.parklandsd.org/foundation.

PETER AND THE STARCATCHER - Tickets for the PHS Fall play that will take the stage Oct 6-8, 2023, will go on sale this Monday, September 11th at noon at www.showtix4u.com. ARTWORKS – This fall, Parkland Art Teachers will be holding adult art classes for community members. No previous experience needed to participate in these fun and exciting classes.   CLICK HERE to register for the fall semester or for more information on this semester's course offerings.  The deadline to register is September 15th.

MYSCHOOLBUCKS - Breakfast is free for all students this year, but a la carte items and lunch are also offered daily in our school cafeterias.  Your student can easily pay with a MySchoolBucks.com account.   Families are encouraged to create an account at MySchoolBucks.com to view their child's account activity and establish low balance notifications, which can be generated by text message and/or email. 

PSAT REGISTRATION for 10th and 11th GRADERS ENDS TOMORROW - Tomorrow morning is the last day to register for the October 14, 2023, PSAT at Parkland High School.  The College Board allows this test to be administered only once every school year. Students should bring this registration form with payment to the PHS Main lobby (outside the  Guidance Office) between 7:15 – 7:45 AM. Students with late start can sign up in the Guidance Office. 11th grade students qualifying for free or reduced lunch are eligible for a fee waiver.

NEW 3 V 3 BASKETBALL LEAGUE OFFERED - PHS has partnered with the Upper Macungie Township Parks and Recreation Department to bring students a new after school 3 v 3 basketball program that will occur on Wednesdays, October 4 - November 8, at Grange Park.  Teams should be comprised of 4-5 PHS players and the cost is just $10 per team for the whole 6 week program ($2 per player if forming a team of 5).  Players must join the Schoology course with code TMHN-R2F3-NMX5N and return the waiver form within the course as well as fill out a registration form that is linked in the MATERIALS folder within the course.  Payment can be dropped in the  PHS Athletic Office in an envelope marked "3 v 3 basketball" and with the "team name."  This program might fill quickly, so students need to submit materials as soon as possible or no later than September 29th. 

PHS STUDENT FAIR - PHS is holding a CLUBS and ACTIVITIES FAIR at PHS all day tomorrow!  Ninth graders will visit tables at a HUGE Fair where they can meet upperclassmen who are involved in clubs and activities.  All students will be encouraged to sign up to try at least two new activities.  You can view the extensive list of what is offered here (this will make GREAT dinner conversation)!

VAPING SEMINAR - A new webinar that has been funded by the PA Department of Health is being offered on September 26th at 6 PM.  It is called E-cigarettes and Youth Vaping:  What PA Parents and Adults Need to Know in 2023.  The presentation will include information about new tobacco products/trends, signs of youth vaping, the reasons teens vape and tips on how to speak with your children about vaping.  This webinar will be presented live and includes an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.  Register here.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FALL SOCIALS/DANCES - The first ones of the year are tonight!   They will occur at the respective schools from 6-8 PM.

NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY - Monday is the District's first Professional Development Day of the school year.  Teachers will be in school, but students will not.
