Weekly Updates 2023-24 School Year

5 THIGNS to KNOW for the week ahead

June 6, 2024

Summer Newsletter - The SUMMER Edition of the Parkland Newsletter is here.   It's the BUDGET issue, so look inside for the proposed final budget information and information related to our Vision 2030 project as well as a recap of our amazing Class of 2024. Speaking of summer, check out our Summer Camps webpage and Recreational Opportunities webpage for lots of family summer fun.

Chromebook Care over Summer - Students currently in grades 1-11 will be asked to keep and safely store their school issued Chromebook over the summer months. At least once per month, please remind students to:

  • Plug in their Chromebook to a power source to fully charge the battery

  • Restart their Chromebook and connect to home WiFi to perform Chrome OS updates while plugged in

  • Unplug the charger for safe storage (leaving the Chromebook plugged in all the time drains the battery over time)

Carrying bags: All students have been issued a Chromebook carrying bag that should be cleaned out and stored safely for next school year.

Hard Shell Covers: Students currently in grades 1,4,5, and 8 have protective covers that should always remain in place on their new Chromebook. Any attempt to remove the cover may cause damage to the chromebook.

Chargers: Be sure to account for your Chromebook charger and safely store it with your Chromebook for the summer months.

Any student who plans to withdraw from Parkland School District in the summer must turn in their Chromebook to their school. More information may be found on the Parkland website:  Parkland Ready

Report Cards - All report cards will publish in HAC on Friday, June 7, by 4 PM.  If you need assistance accessing your HAC account, please email HAC@parklandsd.net.

Summer Sun Bucks EBT - Summer is a time when many children may not have access to the free and reduced-price meals they get during the school year, and households might need a little extra help putting meals on the table. For summer 2024, Pennsylvania will launch SUN Bucks, Pennsylvania’s Summer EBT program, a new grocery benefits program that provides households with a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy food while school is out. Benefits can be used at local participating retailers to purchase groceries. If your student is enrolled in Parkland AND qualifies for free or reduced-price school meals, your child(ren) are automatically eligible. If your student is enrolled in Parkland and is not participating in the free/reduced meal program, but you believe your income would qualify you for the SUN Bucks program, you may still apply for the Summer EBT/SUN Bucks through the DHS website after July 1, 2024. The benefits will be added to an existing SNAP/TANF EBT card or a newly issued Summer EBT card.  For more information, click here.
