4. Food Service Accounts: Food Services has transferred payment processors from www.myschoolbucks.com to www.schoolcafe.com/ParklandSD. All balances were transferred to the new system - simply set up your account and you will see your balance. New deposits and payments (with lower transaction fees!) can be made via the www.schoolcafe.com/ParklandSD website, or by sending cash or check (payable to PSD Cafeteria) to the Food Services Office at 2619 Stadium Drive, Orefield, PA 18069.

5. Fall fun - Support the Parkland Education Foundation's innovation grants that are given to staff each year by attending two events:

Football Tailgate: Prime end zone seating under a tent with food during the Northampton game on Sept 5th.

Annual Golf Outing at the Club at Twin Lakes: An annual sell-out event with prizes, food, and great company.

2. New Student Fair at PHS - Encourage Involvement!

This Friday, September 12th, 2025, all new and 9th grade students will attend the PHS Student Involvement Fair in the main gym. Parents are encouraged to chat with their students about the importance of getting involved in high school activities and encourage them to explore the many options available. 3. Parkway Manor Shoe Drive - Support a Great Cause!

Help us keep shoes out of landfills and support micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries as well as the Parkway Manor PTO. Drop off unwanted shoes 24/7 in the marked receptacles in front of Parkway Manor Elementary School (768 Parkway Rd., Allentown).

4. Dine to Donate at PJ Whelihan's for Post Prom!

Mark your calendars for September 18, 2025! Join us at PJ Whelihan's on Walbert for our first dine-to-donate event supporting the Post Prom Party. Make sure to mention Post Prom when ordering for dine-in or takeout. This important event offers a safe, drug-free night for our seniors after prom. We need parent volunteers of all ages to keep this tradition alive! If you'd like to volunteer or sponsor, please email kkyvelos@ptd.net.

5. Last Day to Register for PSAT is Monday, September 15th!

September 18, 2025

Middle School First Dance: This Friday, our middle schoolers will enjoy their first dance at their respective schools from 6-8 PM at OMS and SMS. Tickets will be on sale during lunch on Friday for $5.

SMS Masked Reader Literacy Event: Springhouse Middle School is hosting a Masked Reader Literacy event on Friday, September 26th, at 6 PM in the SMS Auditorium. Students can try to guess who the middle school staff members are that will be reading behind a mask.  Students earn 5 bonus points for the Accelerated Reading Program Annual Auction for attending.

PHS Fall Play - The Outsiders: Tickets are now on sale for the PHS Fall Play, "The Outsiders," running October 17-19, 2025. This stage adaptation of S.E. Hinton's novel takes place in the 1960’s. Admission is $10 for students and seniors (65+), and $12 for adults. Reserved seat tickets are available at this link.

Parkway Manor Shoe Drive: Support a great cause by dropping off unwanted shoes 24/7 in the marked receptacles in front of Parkway Manor Elementary School through October 31st. 2. Parent University: AI at Parkland - Learn about the use of Generative AI at Parkland School District. This Parent University event, part of Parkland’s Community Advisory Council on Generative AI, will be held on Thursday, October 16th, at 7 PM in the Administration Center Board Room (1210 Springhouse Rd., Allentown). It will also be livestreamed and recorded. Discover how AI is being integrated into the curriculum in grades 6-12 and what it means for your student. 3. Little Mermaid Jr. & Outsiders Tickets! Get ready for upcoming PHS shows! Tickets for "Outsiders" (October 17-19) are on sale now. For "Little Mermaid Jr." (November 21-23), tickets go on sale October 6. Purchase tickets for both shows at www.cur8.com. Admission is $10 for students and seniors (65+), and $12 for adults.

4. Homecoming Spirit Week & Food Drive (Oct. 6–10) - Join us for "Pack the Stands, Pack the Bus" food drive for Parkland students in need. Each school building will collect specific food items which will be communicated to students and families by the school. Get ready for Spirit Week Dress-Up Days:

5. Next Week: Principal Appreciation Month & Custodian Appreciation Day Next week, we kick off National Principal Appreciation Month and Custodian Appreciation Day. Please take a moment to remember to thank our dedicated principals and custodians for their invaluable contributions to our school community. Their hard work and commitment ensure a safe and supportive environment for all.

OCTOBER 2, 2025

Next week is Homecoming week and we have the entire district participating in activities!

1. Homecoming Pack The Stands, Pack The Bus with Food - Each elementary school will collect an item for the elementary snack packs that go home weekly with Parkland students in need.  The items are:
   Cetronia – Oatmeal
   Fogelsville – Nutrigrain Bars
   Ironton – Packaged Ramen
   Jaindl – Chicken Noodle Soup (cans)
   Kratzer – Macaroni & Cheese (cups and boxes)
   Kernsville – Microwave Popcorn
   Parkway Manor – Tuna (cans and pouches)
   Schnecksville – Meal-in-a-Can
   Veterans Memorial – Granola Bars
   The Middle Schools (OMS and SMS) will collect Thanksgiving items to help Parkland REACH staff volunteers deliver full meals to families in need before the November holiday break.  Stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, yams/sweet potatoes, gravy, corn bread mix and cranberry sauce will be collected. PHS is collecting all of the items listed above.

2. Homecoming Week = Spirit Week
   Dress up days that will unite our district in Homecoming spirit include the following:
   Monday – Hawaiian Day
   Tuesday – Tie Dye Day
   Wednesday – Pink Day (Support the Garter Bowl - 6 PM at the Football Stadium)
   Cheer on the girls’ flag football games at the stadium. The Homecoming Court will be announced at halftime.

   Friday – Parkland Spirit Wear Day
   • Homecoming Game (7 PM) vs. Allentown Central Catholic: Help us “Pack the Stands” to cheer on the undefeated Trojans. During halftime, enjoy the high school clubs’ creative parade floats.

   The Parkland Press, an independent weekly newspaper that highlights news within the Parkland community, has launched a new column to feature a senior from the Class of 2026. To be considered for the column, please complete their Google Form, and a representative from the newspaper will contact you.

5. Tickets for Little Mermaid Jr. go on sale on Monday, October 6!
     Get ready for upcoming PHS shows! Tickets for "Outsiders" (October 17-19) are on sale now. For "Little Mermaid Jr." (November 21-23), tickets go on

No School on Monday - Schools will be closed Monday, October 13, 2025, for a Professional Development Day.

​HOMECOMING WEEKEND - Friday is School Spirit/PHS Swag Day.  The football game kicks off at 7 PM vs. Allentown Central Catholic and will include a halftime performance by the PHS Marching Band as well as the annual Homecoming student-built float parade!

HARLEM WIZARDS ARE COMING!  December 7, 5 PM in the Parkland High School Gym. The Harlem Wizards’ famous basketball show filled with tricks, hoops, and tons of comedy, is coming to the PHS Gym on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 5 PM (Show is 1.5-2 hours).  This is a family-friendly show that is fun and entertaining as the Wizards will play against our Parkland Staff! UNHAUNTED HOUSE AT PHS  October 23, 6-7:30 PM. Join the PHS National Honor Society students in the Parkland High School Library for a night of kid-friendly fun, including games, crafts, temporary tattoos, and pumpkin decorating.  Open to Parkland students in grades K-3. Cost is $5 per child. Bring a bag for collecting treats! Dressing up in a non-scary costume is encouraged.

PARKLAND HIGH SCHOOL'S VIRTUAL FINANCIAL AID NIGHT October 15, 7-8 PM. The presenter is Greg Mitton, Director of Financial Aid and Associate Dean of Admissions at Muhlenberg College. He will discuss the entire financial aid process, including how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA ®) form, and both need and merit-based aid.  The link for the virtual meeting:

GRADUATION DATE ANNOUNCED - The Class of 2026 Commencement date has just been approved and will occur on June 3, 2026 at PPL Center at 7 PM. It is time to order the cap and gown.  A cap and gown is required to take part in the graduation ceremony. BIOMEDICAL SYMPOSIUM - Did you know that our high school offers an incredible four-year biomedical curriculum as an elective? Each year, our dedicated teachers host a biomedical symposium, providing students with hands-on medical demonstrations alongside physicians from St. Luke’s University Health Network and other medical vendors. We are currently seeking a generous community donor to provide lunch for the 75 medical volunteers who dedicate their day to teaching our students during the April symposium. DO YOU LOVE YOUR CAREER? Come share your passion with our students at the PHS Annual Career Speaker Series designed to promote career awareness, hiring trends and needs, and pathways to our 9th and 10th graders. PHS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM  S.E.R.V.E. - Students at PHS have the opportunity to participate in a community service program. While not required for graduation, some colleges and universities may consider community service for admission. To receive recognition on their transcript, students must complete 30 hours of service between June 1st and May 31st each year. It is recommended that students submit their hours as soon as activities are completed. Students can find all paperwork and information in the Schoology Class Year folder under Community Service-Parkland S.E.R.V.E.. HALLOWEEN - Elementary School Parades will be held at 2:15 PM, and Trick or Treat Night will occur from 6-8 PM on Friday, October 31, in all three Parkland townships - North Whitehall, South Whitehall, and Upper Macungie as well as the city of Allentown.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT EVENT - Celebrating the Jaindl Family’s legacy of hard work, innovation, and Parkland Pride! Join the Parkland Education Foundation for a fun and inspiring Alumni Spotlight event featuring a talk with the Jaindl Family — a five-generation story of family, farming, and entrepreneurship that all started right here in Parkland.

5. Winter Sports Tryouts Begin November 14 - Students in grades 7-12 interested in PIAA after-school sports should note that tryouts begin on November 14. Please contact the coach of your desired sport for more information; a list of coaches is available here. All students must submit a physical form before trying out. 2. NEW PODCAST EPISODE - From Middle School to the PHS Main Stage: A Theatre Chat We welcome the middle school play directors, Jessica Reitnauer and Sydney Sniezek, alongside their talented student stars from the fall productions: Cadence Adams, Edan Silver, and Maeve Hilton. The high school program is also represented by Natalie Gabrie, director of the PHS Children's Show, and rising stars Riley Davidson and Ryan Iorio. These ninth-grade alumni from OMS and SMS are currently preparing for their roles as Ariel and Eric in the PHS production of Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. Join Dr. Mark Madson as he dives deep into the diverse theatre program opportunities available across Parkland middle and high schools. 5. Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs) for Weather Closures - Parkland School District has eliminated traditional snow days from its calendar. Instead, the district has the option to use up to five Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs) for weather-related closures. Each weather event will be evaluated by the superintendent, and the decision will be communicated accordingly. If a power outage or other issue prevents the use of a FID, students and staff will be required to make up the missed day, as outlined in the district calendar. Guidance on student expectations for a Flexible Instructional Day is available here and will be re-communicated on the actual day. 1. REPORT CARDS - The first marking period has ended and all Report Cards are available to view in Home Access Center (HAC).  If you need help accessing your account, please contact HAC@parklandsd.net.

2. The Parkland Athletics Holiday Store is Open! Get your holiday-themed and favorite items now. The deadline to order for delivery before the holidays and to support our teams is December 11, 2025. Once orders are placed, it takes approximately a week to receive your items.

4. Class of 2026: Last Call for Yearbook & Graduation Senior Portraits! The window of opportunity to have a senior portrait taken for the yearbook, senior slideshow at graduation, and the spring awards ceremony is coming to an end! Frank Mitman will be at Parkland High School next week to take free pictures in the auditorium lobby - no appointment necessary. Parkland's 4th Annual Community Resource Fair will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM, in the Parkland High School cafeteria. Early Dismissal Tomorrow - Friday, January 23, 2026, is an early dismissal day for all students. PHS, SMS, and OMS dismiss at 11 AM, and Elementary Schools will dismiss at 11:45 AM.

2. World Language Week is Next Week at PHS when students will celebrate cultures from around the world! Activities will include a door decorating contest, cooking competition, bocce ball tournament, scavenger hunt, dance lessons and more. Students are invited to dress in international/cultural attire and wear favorite international sports jerseys.  This is always a special week that celebrates our diverse school community.

3. Declutter & Donate: Huge Clothing/Toy Drive on March 14
   Plan to bring your donations to the Parkland High School Music Boosters' Clothing/Toy Drive on March 14 from 9 AM - 12:30 PM. The drive is taking place in the parking lot adjacent to the high school band room (right side of the school).

PHS Expansion Project Gets Underway next week - We are excited to announce that we are breaking ground on a PHS building expansion project, starting Monday, March 9th. Please note the following short-term impacts as construction begins:

Safety Fencing: Fencing will be installed around active construction zones. Students, staff, and guests must refrain from entering these fenced areas.

Hallway Reduction: From March 9 to 23, temporary plastic walls will reduce the size of the hallway in some areas to construct permanent walls for the future guidance, counseling, administration, and nurse suites. The hallways will be returned to their original state afterward.

Parking Lot Closure:  The parking lot adjacent to the softball field will be inaccessible during school hours to make way for construction vehicles. Please find an alternative parking spot in the main parking area on campus.

1. Upcoming Community Concerts - The community is invited to several upcoming concerts:

• PHS Orchestra Chamber Music Concert: Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 PM at Fellowship Community (3000 Fellowship Dr., Whitehall, PA). This concert is free.
• Parkland String Jam: The public is invited to attend the Parkland String Jam on Wednesday, March 25 in the PHS Main Gym, featuring Take 3. Tickets are $10 and available here for purchase.
• High School Jazz Band Community Concert: The Parkland High School Jazz Band will perform on Tuesday, May 12 at 6:30 PM at the JCC. Admission is FREE but Pre-registration is required at lvjcc.org/CommunityConcert.

2. Order Your PHS Class of 2026 Graduation Lawn Sign - Show your Trojan pride! Graduation lawn signs are available for purchase on the Parkland Education Foundation website for $25.00.  Order Deadline: Friday, May 8th. Instructions for pick-up will be emailed to those who place an order.

2. Celebrate Our Class of 2026 Seniors: Merit-Based Scholarship Recognition - We will recognize all Class of 2026 students who have earned a significant merit-based scholarship in the District Newsletter and on PHS social media.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Minimum Value: Must be a minimum of 25% of the cost of tuition at the college or university the student will be attending.
• Merit-Based: Must exclude monies received as loans or financial aid of any kind.

How to Participate:

1. Complete this Form by April 24, 2026 and be sure to hit SUBMIT.
2. Submit Documentation: Send a copy of the official letter or email verifying the merit-based scholarship/cost of tuition to Principal Davidson’s office at rosenbergl@parklandsd.net.

4. Post Prom Party Donations - PHS is seeking donations from its Amazon Wish List for the Post Prom event on May 2, 2026, generously sponsored by the PA National Guard, the Parkland Education Foundation and with a gift from the Class of 2025. This long-standing tradition offers a safe, drug-free night of fun (11 PM - 5 AM) for all students after the Senior Prom. This witty, Pulitzer Prize-winning musical satire opens on April 8, 2026. The classic Broadway show follows the ambitious journey of J. Pierrepont Finch as he uses a self-help book to climb the corporate ladder. Performance Dates are April 8, 9, 10, and 11 at 7:00 PM, and a matinee on April 12 at 3:00 PM. All Parkland parents are invited to an essential workshop addressing the mental health crisis affecting Gen Z. Drawing on Jonathan Haidt’s groundbreaking research in his book, The Anxious Generation, the session explores how the decline of free play and the rise of “phone-based childhoods” have reshaped youth development. Join Parkland Reading Specialist Laura Coulson and Information Technology teacher Dr. Scott Exaros at the Springhouse Middle School Auditorium on Tuesday, April 14 at 6 PM. They will share personal insights and practical strategies gained from their daily work with students to help parents with children in grades K-12 find family balance and thrive in a digital world.

2026 Parkland Distinguished Alumni Wall of Honor Inductees Announced
The 2026 inductees have been announced: Matthew Binder (1991), Teacher / Meteorologist; Gary W. Dorshimer, MD (1973), Internist/Sports Medicine Physician for Penn Medicine and Medical Director for the Philadelphia Flyers; Arlan Mantz, PhD (1958), Oakes Ames Professor Emeritus of Physics at Connecticut College; Joseph Stephen (1994), Special Agent NCIS; and Mary Kay Yezerski-Bondoc (1993), Head of Hair Department for Wicked on Broadway. All five Distinguished Alumni will be recognized on Thursday, April 30, 2026, during a special celebration. Public speeches will be held at PHS from 4:00–5:00 PM (free and open to the public), followed by a ticketed celebration at Lehigh Country Club from 6:00–8:00 PM. The Parkland Girls Lacrosse will be having a Clothing Drive on Saturday, April 18th from 9am to 11am at Parkland High School Parking Lot (in front of the auditorium). See the list of acceptable an non-acceptable items.

Community Yard Sale and Clothing Drive - Saturday, April 25 | 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Springhouse Middle School Parking Lot

Clean out your closets, set up your space, and sell your items throughout the morning. Spaces are $20. Payment can be made by cash, check, or Venmo—details are included on the registration form. Sellers are responsible for setting up their own space and removing all unsold items at the end of the sale. Sign up to participate.

A Community That Cares: The Heart of Parkland’s Success
At Parkland, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, with incredible synergy between our schools and the community. This week, we see that partnership in full bloom: local partners like Dorney Park and Giant are providing thousands of dollars in direct support to our neediest families, while our own PHS Leo and Key Club students are working tirelessly to give back through blood drives and donations to the Parkland REACH program. Our 7th graders are walking for the Autism Society of Lehigh Valley, and the PHS Mini THON will raise thousands for Pediatric Cancer research. These stories prove that when we support our community, they support us right back.

How do we keep 1,000 seniors celebrating safely at the high school until 5:00 AM? With incredible incentives! To keep the energy high until the 4:45 AM Grand Finale drawings, we are "bribing" students with prizes like a MacBook Air and cash awards up to $2,500.

Summer Food Program: Meals 2 Go

Weekly pick-up of 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches is available for students 18 and under. The program is free for those who qualify for free/reduced meals, or $35/week for others.

Note: Distribution is held exclusively at Parkland High School due to federal funding requirements.

Meals will be distributed on Mondays from June 22 through August 17, 2026 from 7:00 am – 8:30 am and 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

To help us prepare, we ask that families pre-order their meals on a weekly basis by the Tuesday prior to each pick-up date. Order forms will be distributed via email to Parkland families and will also be available on our website. Please direct any questions to the Food Services office at 610-351-5670.

Parkland Middle School Academic Camps

Keep students learning this summer with Parkland's academic summer camps, but be sure to sign up soon as space is limited!

• Parkland STEAMM Camp: For current students in grades 6–8, this camp runs June 15-18. Campers will engage in hands-on fun across science, technology, art, engineering, and medicine to tackle creative challenges and explore future careers. Sign up by May 15th using this registration form.
• Algebra or Pre-Algebra Camps: These eight-day camps run June 15-18 & June 22-25 at Orefield Middle School, Room 246, from 8:00 am - 11:30 am.
  • The Algebra I camp is for Parkland students entering grades 6–9 who want a jump-start on concepts or a refresher.
  • The Pre-Algebra camp is for students entering grades 6–8 to get an overview of necessary concepts and prepare for the 7th and 8th grade PSSA math tests.

4th Grade Instrumental Music: Get a Head Start!

Is your 3rd grader ready to start FREE instrumental music lessons next year? Help them choose their instrument by bringing them to the Instrumental Music Exploration Area at the 23rd Annual Festival of the Arts at Parkland High School this Saturday (10 am - 2 pm). Students can hold and learn about different instruments to aid their decision. This area is sponsored by Zeswitz Music and Montero Violins!

Flags for Unity Opens Next Thursday

On May 21, the Rotary Club of Allentown West, will open the 2nd Annual Flags for Unity event, a heartfelt tribute honoring heroes with a field of flags erected on the front lawn of Parkland High School.

The opening ceremony includes a Keynote Address by Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Nate Sassaman, a West Point All-American QB, Army Airborne Ranger, decorated combat veteran, best-selling author, and seasoned leader.  The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 21 at 5:30 PM at the flag field.  All are welcome to attend!  It’s not too late to purchase a flag in honor of someone you love. Dedicate a flag to your hero.

New Athletic Online Registration And Online Physicals For Incoming 7-12th Graders

Parkland School District is switching to online athletic registration through Arbiter.

All 2026-27 student-athletes in 7th-12th grade must:

• Create a family account on the Arbiter portal
• Complete the student-athlete registration

Free Physicals will occur on June 4th for 2026-27 student athletes
Sign-up opens May 27 via SignUpGenius (link will be emailed to families). Ms. McHenry and Mrs. Hertz will be on-site to assist with Arbiter registration.

Before your appointment, complete and bring PIAA CIPPE Section 5 (Section 6 will be filled out by the physician).

Last Week of School Dismissal Times
Our end-of-school calendar is different this year compared to previous years. Please note the PHS Final Exam Schedule begins on June 4th. Also, the final two days of school, June 8 and June 9, are early dismissal days: Middle Schools dismiss at 11 AM and Elementary Schools dismiss at 11:45 AM.  

Boys' Lacrosse Playoffs

The Boys' Lacrosse team is the last of our spring sports that are still in play.  Cheer on the District XI Champions as they compete early next week in the first round of the State Tournament (date and location will be posted on our athletic calendar once it is scheduled).
