FOR NAHS Art studio Application:
Read below to get a sense of what info we give to OMS students: Your application is at the bottom of this page.
AFTER SCHOOL ART STUDIO/ MURAL CLUB
Do you want to express your creativity and fulfill your artistic talents after school? This years After School Art Studio Class has many opportunities for you to create and inspire!
ARTISTIC POSSIBILITIES: The club grew so much that we are trying something new this year to accommodate the large amount of students and different mediums students chose to work with. One class will focus on 2-D works (drawing, painting and printmaking and the other class will focus more on ceramics and 3-D sculpture). We will offer a Fall and Spring Session of each. So students can take a 2-D class in the fall and a 3-D class in the Spring if they like. We will devise the specific dates after we get a consensus from analyzing the student applications.
*Some of the materials students may work with are: watercolor, colored pencils, pastels, collage, clay, stop motion animation etc.) or subject matter (people, faces, buildings etc.…) We are here to guide, encourage, and inspire them in whatever artistic endeavor they are interested in.
*Students can work on the new “Celebrate the Arts Sculpture Mural” which students started during a meeting of clubs. This mural is part collage and acrylic paint on canvas.
*Students can work on preparing different art events happenings as they emerge throughout the district this year. *Students can work on preparing the Spirit of Hope Mural for installation (once the final location is secured).
* All students will help with setting up parts of the art show and must attend the art show in May.
WHO CAN JOIN: We are looking for students who have enthusiasm, creativity, independence, commitment, patience, willingness to work in a group, and a true, passionate interest in the arts. Because of the amount of materials we will be using and the room we have to work with, space is limited. We would really like to offer this program to students who want to express creativity and fulfill artistic talents who are not already involved in many other extra curricular activities in order for us to be fair and give others a chance to succeed. (In the past we have had students miss several meetings, which in turn puts stress on other students to fill in the gaps for a large group project when working on the mural).
DO THE STUDENTS HAVE TO BE GOOD AT ART OR LOVE IT?
No, Students do not have to be good at art (yet! – We will teach them that). We try to create an environment where everyone is welcomed and feels comfortable to make art & learn how to / express their thoughts and ideas in a positive and encouraging way.
COMMUNITY AND PARTICIPATION: Some students from the high school in the National Art Honor Society will be joining us on a regular basis. This art mentorship program with the high school was developed last year and was very successful. Students may also on occasion work w/ senior home residents, and indirectly working with students in other schools and community members.
INVOLVEMENT: We ask that the students bring old clothes that can get messy (or keep them in their locker). If your child will be working with glass and grout, he or she will be wearing protective gloves and glasses. Not all students will be working with glass at the same time. If your child will miss a day, please let another student in the club know or leave me voicemail or email.
TIMES: The selected students would be asked to stay after school 1 day a week and later in Spring possibly 2 days a week. As of now it will begin the first week in November. The club begins at 2:45 and ends at 4:15. There may be changes in the schedule or cancellations as needed, so make sure your students listen to the morning announcements & check email. Snacks: Parents and Students are urged to pack a snack. Please consider your snack choices before packing (we appreciate avoiding candy & soda as we have seen major behavior changes in the students in the club:) the vending machines are UNAVAILABLE after lunch.
TRANSPORTATION: Please make arrangements ahead of time to pick up your child or have them take the 4:20 activity bus home (depending on the availability on that particular day). The ONLY bus leaves at 4:20. Please have your child memorize their top 2 guardian phone# and an emergency contact. It is important they know this by heart and their bus route & intersection (to take the activity bus home if needed). Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I look foreword to working with the art students to create unique artwork and a great masterpiece to celebrate our community.
