Guidelines and Procedures
Physical Education classes are intended to be stimulating, enjoyable, and relaxing! They are also demanding and instructional. Classes require self-discipline of the body and mind and also call for group discipline in team activities. Fitness and educational return is directly proportional to student input. It is extremely important to make an effort and to participate fully in the program!
The program of physical education is designed to expand a student’s range of experience by learning and trying new activities. It is important to participate in all activities. Students are urged to help other students with less experience and ability. Challenges are provided for each student and everyone is encouraged to accept the challenge!
With this in mind, the following guidelines and procedures have been established for participation and safety in the physical education program and environment!
Preparation for physical education class refers to students coming to class ready to participate in appropriate, safe, and hygienic gym attire! The following dress regulations are to be observed:
Students must be properly dressed for physical education classes in clean, safe, and appropriate clothing (other than what was worn to school that day) which consists of the following:
- full length, short sleeve T-shirt (NO TANK TOPS)
- athletic shorts (School Dress Code Approved)
- athletic socks and sneakers
Warm-up suits, sweat pants, and non-hooded sweat shirts may be worn during class.
All interscholastic athletes ARE required to dress and participate in physical education class, even in sport season; however, activities may be modified or limited in nature at the discretion of the physical education staff.
All uniforms and clothing issued for participation in an interscholastic sport will NOT be permitted in class.
Students who DO NOT comply with the appropriate, safe, and hygienic dress regulations WILL NOT participate!
Showers are available but are not required due to the limited time frame.
A parent or doctor’s note is required for a student to be excused from class.
A parent’s note may be used for 2 consecutive classes after which a doctor’s note is required.
Doctor’s recommendations will be followed and students can only return to activity upon the doctor’s orders.
Class Procedures and Safety:
In the beginning of class, students have 5 minutes to change and to report to the designated area.
Lockers are available for security but students must provide locks which need to be removed after each and every class.
Jewelry (earrings, bracelets, rings, watches, necklaces, & piercings) are NOT permitted in class. Special circumstances require a parent note.
NO GUM is allowed in the gym!!!
Long hair should be tied so as to not inhibit vision and for safety concerns.
Glass guards should be worn or eye glasses removed during contact sports.
Students should NOT handle any equipment or proceed with any activities until an instructor is present.
Accidents MUST be reported immediately to the instructor, no matter how minor!
No one is dismissed from class or allowed back in the locker room at any time (before, during, or after activity) without permission from the instructor!
At the conclusion of class, no one is to leave the locker room until dismissed by the instructor or appropriate bell.
