Fitness Testing has become an important and integral part of the PE curriculum. The fitness levels of our students are very important to us given that the medical experts have issued many warnings about the future years of our teens. We here at OMS have taken this very seriously and have found ways to fight this “epidemic”. We have written grants and secured monies to buy technology that will assist us in this endeavor. It is our hope that we can show credible data that will represent just where your son or daughter is on the spectrum of physical fitness.
With the help of the TriFit computerized fitness testing station, and also the use of Polar Heart Rate Monitors (HRM), we are able to do just that – show evidence and educate. It is our philosophy that if we are able to show our students their fitness level and teach them the things they can do to either maintain a healthy body, or remedy a defienciency – then we have fulfilled a part of our goal. It is our hope that through the middle school years of fitness education, our students will take ownership in their personal fitness level and hopefully make the necessary changes to live a “Healthier Lifestyle”.
The exercises that we use to generate the fitness reports are :
Sit and Reach
Using the students height and weight, and the results of the above tests – a “Body Composition” report is also generated. The students stand on a Tanita BF-350 Bioimpedance Scale – which analyses their body make up and characteristics and ultimately creates an additional report through the TriFit computer.
The reports for the 2012-2013 school year will be emailed home to the parent’s provided
