On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, the Parkland Board of School Directors appointed Richard T. Sniscak as Superintendent of Parkland Schools effective July 1, 2011. Mr. Sniscak currently serves the District as Assistant Superintendent and will replace Dr. Louise E. Donohue who will retire on June 30.
Richard Sniscak, an Allentown native, is a 1984 graduate of the The Citadel – The Military College of South Carolina, where he majored in Math and Education and played football on a full scholarship. Upon graduation, he taught math for 10 years in the Allentown School District and served as an Assistant to the High School Principal for one year. In 1995, he was appointed as Parkland’s Athletic Director / Assistant to the Principal and, in 2001, Mr. Sniscak became the Principal of Parkland High School. He was appointed Assistant Superintendent of the District on March 24, 2009.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Louise E. Donohue, commented, “I commend the Board on this excellent choice that will serve PSD for many years to come. Rich will bring strong, compassionate leadership to PSD and continuity during these most challenging times. Rich has an admirable work ethic, strong loyalty to Parkland, and will provide exceptional leadership at a critical time in public education. We will work closely over the next four months to assure a smooth transition”
Richard Sniscak commented, “I consider it an honor of the first order to be afforded the opportunity to serve the District in this capacity and am excited to serve students, staff, parents, Board, and community members in continuing to provide a high quality education in which all students have an opportunity for success. I pledge to dedicate myself to serving Parkland with an appreciation of the basic principles of honesty, accountability, integrity and respect while being ever cognizant of the difficult financial times we are living in to ensure that the competing interests of a high quality education and the ability of the tax-paying public maintain a respectful balance.”
Mrs. Jayne Bartlett, President of the Board of School Directors stated, “I am so proud of our Board’s unanimous decision to appoint Rich to this leadership position. Through a rigorous internal process, he has proven that he is not only ready and willing to take on the chief executive position at Parkland, he has demonstrated a true sense of loyalty, care and concern for the entire community through his actions in his current role of Assistant Superintendent and has excelled in all aspects of leadership during his tenure at Parkland. We are truly fortunate to have an internal candidate that fits our needs so perfectly.”
Sniscak earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility Certificate from Lehigh University in 2004. He is in the final stages of completing a doctoral program in Educational Leadership.
