ARRIVAL TIME AT SCHOOL
Elementary students will not be permitted to enter the school building prior to 8:45 a.m. The time from 8:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. has been set aside as preparation time for our teaching staff.
Since there is no early morning supervision available for your child on the playground or in the school building, the school district cannot assume the responsibility for the care of your child prior to 8:45 a.m.
MODIFIED KINDERGARTEN
The Parkland School District utilizes a modified kindergarten schedule when there is a two-hour weather delay. The schedule is as follows:
AM Kindergarten
11:00am - 12:45 p.m.
PM Kindergarten
1:45pm - 3:30 p.m.
This schedule will permit greater equalization of instructional time for both sessions of kindergarten.
PARENT PICK-UP PROCEDURES
Parent pick-up during normal school hours
A written note must be sent to your child’s teacher stating the date, time, and reason the student is being picked up.
Upon arrival, parents should report to the office and sign out his or her child before being permitted to leave.
Parent pickup at the end of the day
A written note must be sent to your child’s homeroom teacher in the morning, stating the day or days in which the child will be parent pick-up.
If a written note is not received, then the student will be sent home on his or her bus.
ABSENCES OF PUPILS
It is very important that ALL PUPILS, kindergarten through grade 5, attend school regularly and be at the bus stops on time. When tardiness is frequent, parents will be called.
State law requires a written parental report stating the reason for a pupil’s absence from school.
After three (3) days of absence the school nurse, principal, or school secretary may call the home to discover the reason for the absence. Parents are requested to complete a blue excuse card for each period of absence.
