The guidance department at Orefield Middle School provides support and counseling across the academic, social, and emotional domains. The counselors believe in the dignity and worth of all students and are committed to their role as advocates for students in the educational setting.
Seventh grade guidance classes cover various issues critical to healthy adolescent development. Students will examine topics of tolerance, respect, and self-exploration, while learning effective communication and coping skills. The career interest/research unit is designed to educate students on the world of work, while they begin to explore their own strengths and interests.
Peer mediation, a program available to all students, affords students the opportunity to resolve conflicts in a peaceful way. Peer mediation teaches students to see conflict as a part of everyday life and an opportunity to grow and learn as they solve their own problems through improved communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
Peer tutoring offers students the opportunity to receive academic assistance from fellow students who have volunteered their services and have a desire to improve the academic school community by helping others.
