What does a counselor do?
- Talks with students individually and in small groups
- Meets new students
- Presents developmentally appropriate lessons
- Promotes identification and appropriate experssion of feelings
- Helps children develop coping and problem solving skills
A counselor works with:
- Students
- Parents

- School Psychologist
- Instructional Support Team
- Student Services
- Physicians, Mental Health Professionals, and Outside Agencies
What programs does the counselor coordinate?
- Peer mediation
- Peer tutoring
- Standardized Testing for Grades 2-5
- Gifted screening
Counselors can help when:
- My child is having trouble with friends
- My child needs a homework routine
- I need some discipline ideas
- My child does not want to come to school
- My child has trouble with angry feelings
- My child is dealing with a divorce
- My child is dealing with bereavement issues
To talk to the building counselor, students may:
- Ask their teachers to make an appointment
- Write a note to the counselor and leave in mailbox by her door
- Ask their parents to call
Parents are also urged to call the counselor and notify her of any concerns that may affect their child’s learning throughout the day. All messages are private & confidential.
