THIRD GRADE CURRICULUM
Language Arts

The students will learn how to correct the mistakes that they find in pre-written sentences. The corrected sentences are then discussed. Students will also learn the who, what, when, and where phrases that make up a well developed sentence and will then construct their own detailed sentences. The steps to writing various forms of communication will be presented. The steps include prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. Lessons on grammar will also be included in writing workshops. Writings will be evaluated according to the writing traits. Writing traits include organization of material and use of proper conventions.

Spelling
Spelling is incorporated into our Houghton Mifflin Series. Each theme has 3 or 4 spelling lists, using words directly from its theme stories. Please know that your child might not have a spelling test every single week.
Handwriting
The students will be learning cursive writing this year. By January we will begin using cursive in the subject areas. In February all writing will be done in cursive.
