Grades K-2
Through these first early grades students will participate in a variety of eye-hand and eye-foot coordination exercises. They will experience rhythmical and non-rhythmical sensory motor skills. They will experience activities involving body mechanics such as coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, endurance and agility.
- Learn how to throw and catch
- Striking and rolling skills
- Play cooperative large group games in a secure, noncompetitive environment
- Enjoy a variety of exploratory movement skills using all kinds of equipment such as: jump ropes, playground balls, and scooters
- Experience team concepts
- Display good sportsmanship and safety
Grades 3, 4 & 5
Along with continuing with what has been established in the earlier grades, students in third and fourth grade will also focus on the following:
- Hand-eye coordination and foot-eye coordination by using ball skills
- Develop various directionality in movement patterns
- Participate in problem solving physical activities involving flexible grouping and cooperative learning
- Exhibit good health, safety and conflict resolution practices during sports and recreational activities
- Engage in exercises, calisthenics, aerobics, cross country, track & field, and team sports
- Apply skills learned in previous grades in sports and games
- Strive for personal fitness through exercises, calisthenics, aerobics, and track & field
- Reinforce fundamentals in individual and team activities
- Accept leadership responsibilities in structured games and seasonal sports
- Participate in the physical fitness testing program
- Students participate in a special integrated dance/movement activities that combines physical education and vocal music class.
