Welcome to the Ironton Elementary School Office
If you need to speak with a teacher, please e-mail or leave a voice mail message. Teachers have specific responsibilities once children begin to arrive at school and again at the end of the day, so at these busy times a teacher may not be able to give you their full attention. You may contact your child’s teacher to schedule a meeting at a convenient time for both you and the teacher.
Volunteers and Visitors
Volunteers and visitors are to report to the office to sign-in and obtain a Volunteer or Visor Badge, and sign–out at the end of the visit.
An exception is made when visitors attend band and chorus programs held in the cafeteria.
From 8:35 to 8:50 a.m., parents should report directly to the office with any large objects, projects, etc. that need to be delivered to their child’s classroom. For security reasons parents are asked not to accompany their children to the classrooms. Teachers on bus duty or our office staff will gladly make sure the items are delivered safely.
After 8:50 a.m., items that children may have forgotten (lunches, instrument, homework, etc.) should be brought to the office and the child’s teacher will be notified.
Homework for Absent Students
Homework will be sent home upon parent request.
Parent request for homework need to be made to the office before 10:30 a.m. so that teachers have an opportunity to prepare the work.
Requested homework will be available in the office at 3:30p.m.
Homework will be sent home with a sibling upon request.
Homework will not be sent home with another child unless the parent of that child sends written permission to the school to do so.
If you drive your children to school the drop off area will be at the Mauch Chunk entrance of the school near the portable classrooms. Be sure to follow the directional arrows that have been painted on the parking lot adjacent to Mauch Chunk Road.
DO NOT DROP OFF CHILDREN BEFORE 8:35 A.M. Teachers are involved in meetings and preparation for the day and are not available to supervise children.
Since all the building doors will be locked at 8:50 a.m., arrival at school after this time will require parents to park in the Levans Road parking lot, use the Levans Road entrance doors and walk their children to the office and sign them in to assure that they are credited as being present on our attendance rolls.
If you are picking up children during the day or if you come to the building after 8:50 a.m., and before 3:20 p.m., use the Levans Road entrance, ring the doorbell to gain entry.
If we do not receive a written note or phone call from you indicating you will be coming to the school for your child, he/she will be sent home on the bus. We will not rely upon verbal messages from children. If your after-school pick-up will be on a regular bases (Example: Every Tuesday,) one note to that effect will suffice for the year.
When you are picking up students at the end of the day, park in the Mauch Chunk Road Parking Lot. The children will be called in 2 separate groups (students in grades K through 2 will be called first, and then students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be called). The children will be asked to proceed to the wooden walkway that leads to the portable classrooms. They will wait on the walkway until they are dismissed to their parent. Children will not be dismissed until the parent has signed the notebook located on the table next to the door of the first portable classroom (nearest to the Mauch Chunk parking lot). In the case of inclement weather, the students will wait inside this portable classroom until parents sign them out.
A.M. drop-off will be same as above. A.M. pick-up will be at the main entrance (bus entrance) at Levans Road. P.M. drop-off will be at the main entrance (bus entrance) at Levans Road while P.M. pick-up will be in the library at the end of the day.
