In addition to the current Google Chromebook carts, this summer we will be adding an additional Chromebook cart to each of the elementary schools, three to each of the middle schools, and six at the high school. We are offering several Parkland Academy workshops to help staff get the most out of these devices, and understand how they integrate with Parkland’s Google Apps domain, and Parkland’s Open Campus portal. Below is a video that demonstrates some of the uses of Chromebooks in the classroom:
Why Chromebooks in the Classroom?
And here is a recent article, Chromebooks and education, a perfect match, that explains some of the additional benefits.
Tom Cierlitsky has added the following list of apps to the Chromebooks:
- BioDigital Human
- Khan Academy
- Google Drive
- Google Dictionary
- Exit Ticket
- Google Slides
- World Data Atlas
- Quick Equations
- IXL Math
- Accelerated Reader BookFinder
- Desmos Graphing Calculator
Additional apps available for the Google Chromebooks can be found online at https://chrome.google.com/webstore#category/app/8-education. Please contact JR Renna (ext. 51595) if there are programs you would like to have added. The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has also curated a list of the best web sites for 2016 that would work well on the Chromebooks.
