2017 ACADEMIC CAMPS

STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) Middle School sessions run from July 17th – 21st. High School sessions run from July 24th – 28th. All 10 camp sessions are at Parkland High School.
A big “Thank You” to Parkland Education Foundation! We will be offering numerous sessions at both the High School (grades 9-11 as of this school year) and the Middle School (grades 6-8 as of this school year). Thanks to our sponsor, the cost of the camps will be only $100 for the High School and $50 for the Middle School and are on a first come basis. We will hold a waiting list for registrations after our total capacity is met. For complete details download the registration forms.
Summer Pre-Algebra Middle School Camp Middle School Summer Camps are currently filled and not accepting any more registrations.
July 24 – August 4 (10 Days)
The Parkland School District will hold a Pre-Algebra camp this summer for Parkland Students ONLY who are entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grades. This camp is targeted for students who will be taking Pre-Algebra in the near future and would like a jump-start on major concepts within the course. This is not a replacement for Pre-Algebra, but an overview of those concepts that are most necessary for success in future Algebra courses. This course will also help prepare students for the 7th and 8th grade PSSA math tests. As with any math course, daily attendance is important.
Summer Algebra I Middle School Camp Middle School Summer Camps are currently filled and not accepting any more registrations.
For 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade Students (Summer 2017) July 24 – August 4 (10 days)
Parkland School District will hold an Algebra I camp this summer for Parkland Students ONLY who are entering 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grade. This camp is targeted for two types of students: those who will be taking Algebra I next school year and would like a jump-start on major concepts within the course, and those who have already taken Algebra I and want or need a refresher. This is not a replacement for Algebra I. This camp is not for students taking Pre-Algebra in the 2017-2018 school year. Register by June 2, 2017
Middle School Boot Camp Middle School Summer Camps are currently filled and not accepting any more registrations.
August 21 to 25 (five days)
The Parkland School District is pleased to offer Middle School Boot Camp, a transition camp for all Parkland students going to 6th grade or who are new to the district. The camp will provide engaging activities to make summer learning both fun and meaningful. The emphasis will be on preparing students to be successful at middle level education. Strategies, tips, information, and advice will be shared and practiced in the areas of study skills, organization, time management, and public speaking, among others.
Literature and Lemonade
July 24 to August 4 (10 days)
The Parkland School District is pleased to offer Literature and Lemonade, a reading camp for all Parkland students going to 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The camp will provide reading enrichment as well as support through fun and relevant literacy experiences. The emphasis will be on an enjoyment and appreciation of reading, along with basics such as reading strategies, comprehension, improving fluency, vocabulary development, literary elements, and critical reading skills. Students will find books they love, take part in active, shared reading experiences, and even participate in the Accelerated Reading Program.

This summer’s all-new curriculum allows children in kindergarten through 6th grade to experience real-world problem solving and creative thinking as they transform a distant exoplanet, take risks as future entrepreneurs, blast rockets and rubber chickens, and wire a circuit to create their own Spy Gadget Alarm Box!

Camp sessions for students in Pre-K through eighth grade include a variety of fun and engaging week-long morning, afternoon, and full-day sessions from June 19 – August 25. Camp topics include video game making, mini medical school, wizardry, art and design, and many more. Summer Camp 2017 with Studio G. runs August 7–11, from 9:00–12:00 for students entering 4th–8th grade. Students will be grouped with their peers and will work on a variety of creative writing activities daily. This year’s camp will focus more on the writing with artwork on the side. Students will participate in daily writing prompts and mini-stories, while also focusing on creating setting, characters, and plot lines for longer stories.

Elementary Music Camp
The Parkland Elementary Band & Strings camp will be held from Monday, July 31-Friday, August 4. The camp is for students who have just finished 4th or 5th grade AND currently play a band or string instrument at school. Held in the Arts Wing at Parkland High School, the camp features a concert band and a string orchestra. Students participate in a daily ensemble rehearsal and small group instruction, plus have a choice to participate in a small ensemble, jazz band, percussion ensemble, or music composition class. Students also attend a mini-recital, given by a local artist/musician. The camp concludes with a public concert on Friday, August 5th at 10:30 AM.
