2013 Summer Camps
Parkland Middle School Summer Academic Camps
The Parkland School District is pleased to offer Literature and Lemonade, a reading camp for all students going to 6th, 7th , and 8th grades. The camp will provide reading enrichment as well as support through fun and relevant literacy experiences. The emphasis will be on an enjoyment and appreciation of reading, along with basics such as reading strategies, comprehension, improving fluency, vocabulary development, literary elements, and critical reading skills. Students will find books they love, take part in active, shared reading experiences, and even participate in the Accelerated Reading Program.
PLTW_Gateway_Academy STEMM Camp - Calling all middle school students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine, or STEMM! Parkland Middle School students can expect unforgettable fun at the Parkland Gateway Academy Summer Day Camp. Incorporating innovation and fun with meaningful experiences, Project Lead the Way and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation collaborate to prepare students for the rigors of high school science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) classes.
The Parkland School District will hold a Pre-Algebra camp this summer for students who are entering 7th grade for the 2013-2014 school year. This camp is targeted for two types of students: those who are taking Algebra One and wish to review the Pre-Algebra curriculum first or those who will be taking Pre-Algebra in the fall and would like a jump-start on major concepts within the course. This is not a replacement for Pre-Algebra, but a review of those concepts that are most necessary for success in Algebra One. This course will also help prepare students for the 7th grade PSSA math test. As with any camp, daily attendance is important.
Parkland School District will hold an Algebra I camp this summer for students who are entering 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grade. This camp is targeted for two types of students: those who will be taking Algebra I in the 2013-2014 school year and would like a jump-start on major concepts within the course, and those who have already taken Algebra I and want or need a refresher. This is not a replacement for Algebra I. This camp is not for students taking Pre-Algebra in the 2013-2014 school year.
All 3 Camps will take place weekdays, June 17th – June 28th (10 days) from 8 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. There will be a fee of $100 per student for each camp. There must be a minimum number of students enrolled for the camp to run. Information will be placed in the 5th M.P. report cards and additional information and registration forms will be available on the middle school websites.
If there are any questions regarding any middle school summer camps, please contact Dr. John Pfeiffer at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610-351-5537.
