PUBLIC NOTICE OF INTENT TO APPLY FOR APPROVAL OF EXCEPTIONS PER ACT 1 OF 2006

The Parkland School District’s Act 1 index for 2012-13 is 1.7%.  Based upon the Preliminary Budget there may be a need to increase taxes beyond the index.  To permit an increase in taxes beyond the index without seeking voting approval, Act 1 permits the School District to apply for exceptions from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).  PDE will determine whether or not the School District’s application for exceptions will be approved. The School District intends to apply for approval of one or more exceptions in accordance with the provisions of Act 1 of 2006.  If one or more of the exceptions are granted by the PDE, the School District will be allowed to increase taxes above the index without voter approval.  The increased tax revenues generated as a result of the PDE approval of the exceptions shall be used to balance the School District’s final 2012-13 budget for the purpose of continuing to offer a quality education program to students.
