The
Parkland Middle School Guidance Department would like to welcome you and
your child to the exciting middle school years. This is a period
of great emotional, physical, and academic growth. The goal of the
Parkland Middle School Guidance Department is to help your child transition
academically, organizationally, and emotionally from an elementary student
to a high school student. We look forward to serving you and your
child through these formative years.
-
Remind your child to utilize the assignment notebook.
-
Enforce a nightly bedtime.
-
Encourage your child to organize materials for school the night before.
-
Ask your child to identify nightly homework assignments
as opposed to asking if he/she has homework. Check completed
assignments off in the assignment notebook.
-
Color code book covers with folder/binders for each subject.
-
Limit computer time.
-
Monitor your child’s computer activity.
-
Get to know your child’s friends.
-
Listen to your child’s music and watch their movies, television
shows, and video games. This may create interesting topics for
discussion.
-
Continue to ask your child about their day. Although
he/she may provide little reciprocal dialogue it shows your child that
you are still interested in their day.
